Top Questions About Cabinet Painting in Central Connecticut

Have questions about painting your kitchen cabinets? We’ve got answers…

The cabinet painting process is certainly fun and exciting, right? You’re gearing up for a whole new look in your kitchen with one of the highest-impact projects you can invest in.

At the same time, the process can raise a lot of questions. Plus, you may not be quite sold on it yet, and are doing your due diligence to make sure it’s the right move for your home. To help you along your journey, no matter what you decide, we have a handful of top cabinet painting FAQ to share with you.

How long does it take to paint kitchen cabinets?

It depends on the size of your kitchen, number of doors and drawers, the finish you’d like, and a number of other factors. But in most cases, cabinet painting can be finished within a week. That’s part of what makes it such a nice alternative to a full remodel that can last weeks or even months.

Do you spray or brush kitchen cabinets?

There’s still a place for brushed finishes, particularly if you’re going for a very specific style. But in most cases it’s best to spray. Not only is it fast and efficient, but a skilled sprayer can create the gorgeous, smooth aesthetic you’re looking for.

Can you use regular interior paint for kitchen cabinets?

No, you really shouldn’t. Cabinet paint needs to perform in very specific ways, with an ultra-hard finish that is strong enough to stand up to wear and tear. There are several different products we use, but as an example, take a look at Benjamin Moore’s Cabinet Coat. Designed for cabinets and trim, this enamel paint resists chipping, scratches, and is easy to wipe clean.

Are painted cabinets hard to keep clean?

This is the close cousin of the question above. The answer is that no, painted cabinets are not hard to keep clean as long as they’re painted correctly with the right paint for the job. Your professionally painted cabinets should be durable, beautiful, and have a factory-like quality.

Is painting cabinets cheap or expensive?

You get what you pay for. There are plenty of painters who can do the job quickly and for a super low price, but you have to be very, very careful. You’ve got a lot riding on your project, so we’d encourage you to look deeper and ask tough questions about the products they use, their previous experience, job photos, and warranties.

Can I paint kitchen cabinets myself?

Obviously we’re a professional painting company, so you’re going to expect us to tell you to hire a pro, right? We’re going to try and be as unbiased as possible in our answer, though. Cabinet painting is a specialized process, and it requires the right products, the right tools, experience, and time. You’ll find plenty of do-it-yourself cabinet painting resources online, but these types of projects can turn into a nightmare, and are very hard to fix if they go wrong. Also, even if it looks good when you’re done, how long will it last? And do you offer yourself a warranty (yes, that’s a joke)? Honestly, it’s best to do yourself a favor and hire an experienced cabinet painter that can make the process easy and ensure it’s done right.
