Increase Your Connecticut (CT) Curb Appeal With Paint

A balmy summer has settled in across Connecticut and with it, all manner of exterior home projects. There is nothing like pulling in to your driveway and being struck by the beauty of your own home. From front doors painted in historic colors to garden beds filled with Mountain Laurel, the possibilities to enhance your home’s curb appeal are endless. But, to get you started, here are 4 ways you can increase your home’s curb appeal using these exterior paint ideas.

  1. Freshen your front door- One of the quickest and easiest curb appeal projects you can tackle is painting your front door. It seems like a small step but you will be amazed at the transformation this one change can make. Select a fun, modern color or a historic hue. Be sure to use an exterior paint color with a wipeable finish so you can enjoy your hard work lasts for years to come.
  2. Change your garage door color- If you’re not in love with the color of your garage door, painting it is an easier fix than you may think. You’ll want to select a paint color that will work in harmony with the color of your home’s exterior color schemes. Start with a clean surface by using a pressure washer or cleaning it with tsp (available at your paint retailer.) You’ll need to use a paint that will work with the materials of your garage door, such as an aluminum friendly paint if that’s the case. You can either spray or roll your garage door, depending on the tools you have on hand and the time you want to dedicate to prepping your work space. Paint the grooves fist and then work your way out.
  3. Paint your trim- If you live in an older or historic home, chances are you have wood trim that needs to be freshened up every so often. Although trim seems like a small part of your home’s exterior, the impact it makes is dramatic. Make sure you scrape off any peeling or chipping paint before starting and protect your patio and walkway by using a heavy drop cloth that won’t blow away in the wind.
  4. Spruce up your Shutters- Your dated shutters may be bringing down the overall curb appeal of your home, have you considered painting them? Be sure to use a workspace where wind isn’t an issue, you don’t want your fresh paint getting speckled with dirt and dust. Remove your shutters, clean them with a hose and brush, paint with surface appropriate paint and allow plenty of time to cure. Then re-install and be amazed at the transformation you’ve made.
