  • Get ready for your 2014 Exterior House Painting

As winter is coming to a close it is time to start thinking about the exterior of your home. It is important to remember that maintenance is more important than appearance. We all want our home to look appealing but by not paying attention to the maintenance it will create elevated costs in the future.

There are many areas of your home to check as spring arrives;

• Has there been any damage from water getting behind your gutters; this left undetected can result in the rotting of your wood trim.

• Check for paint failure; that will be the first sign of a leak.

• Always check to be sure any dissimilar Joints (areas where two different pieces of wood join) that have open joints receive a high quality elastomeric sealant to close those joints. This will keep moisture and insects out and have the flexibility to move with the changing climate.

• Consult a professional if this is a project you are not comfortable inspecting yourself. Many professionals will set up an inspection schedule with you once a year for a small fee or as part of their warranty program.

Remember; Paint on your exterior wood is for much more than looks; it is your woods first defense against insect and water intrusion.
