Does your living room need a boost? It’s a new year, and now is a great time to bring a new look in your home. Being the center of activity in most homes, the living room is an excellent place to begin! However, sometimes it’s tough to pick a paint color. We’re so used to what we’ve got, it’s hard to imagine what else might look good there. If that describes you, we’re here to help! Here are some of 2018’s most popular paint colors for living rooms:
Black Is the New… Living Room Color?!
Of the paint colors that are making a splash this year, black is definitely the most unexpected! Far from a dull, uninteresting absence, the shades of black that we see in living rooms are complex, rich, and visually gripping.
For a really bold look, you can use black as your main wall color, setting it off with white trim and light-colored furniture or accessories. Or for a more moderate approach, use black for just one wall, or for a major feature of a room, like a fireplace surround or a built-in cabinet.
Alternatively, you can use black as your trim color, pairing it with gray or white walls.
Some of our favorite blacks for a living room paint color include PPG’s “Black Flame.”
Some Like It Hot!
Benjamin Moore has chosen a spicy new tone for their color of the year: Caliente. Spanish for hot, this color is full of life and energy, but it doesn’t overwhelm. It could work well as an accent wall or a main living room paint color, and it pairs with many different options. You could pair it with white, of course, or with a number of different options, including creamy golds or oranges, warm tans, or rich blues.
Vacation in a Can!
Sherwin Williams went with a cooler tone for their color of the year for 2018: Oceanside. This vibrant blue is anything but ordinary; it pulses with life and vibrant richness, creating a tranquil, trendy space. For a calm look, pair it with white, cream, green or other blues. Or, for a more trendy, energetic look, bring some orange or yellow into the picture. Oceanside is a great living room color if you’re looking for something new and unique, without going as bright as Caliente or as dark as Nocturne Shade.
